Senior Product Development Lead (Automotive Seating)

About the Role:

Excelloit, in partnership with a leading player in the automotive sector, is seeking an experienced and skilled Senior Product Development Engineer. This position plays a crucial role in bridging our client's engineering efforts with their key European customer, focusing specifically on complete seat design and development. The role demands a professional with extensive experience in automotive seating, particularly for BMW, and proficiency in both English and German to effectively communicate and collaborate with German clients.

Key Responsibilities:

• Act as the main interface between the customer and our client's engineering team in China.
• Lead product development for complete seats and sub-components.
• Direct daily activities of Lead and Product Engineers.
• Ensure all designs meet functional customer specifications, SOR requirements, and our client's design guidelines.
• Proactively identify risks in product designs and establish mitigation plans.
• Maintain strong relationships with European customers, especially BMW, ensuring trust and effective communication.
• Manage a team of Product Design Engineers and CAD Designers, focusing on functional, program-specific development.
• Oversee program design status, timelines, and drawing schedules.
• Conduct and manage DFMEA’s and DVP&R’s processes.
• Lead Design Reviews and the creation of DVP & PV test plans based on customer specifications.
• Guide root cause analysis and problem resolution, approving engineering changes as needed.
• Represent the business unit in customer management meetings.

Qualifications:

• Over 10 years of experience in complete seat design and development, specifically with European customers like BMW.
• At least 5 years of team leadership experience.
• Knowledge of IATF16949 system requirements and VDA6.3 audit requirements.
• Expertise in engineering mechanics and FEA analysis.
• Familiarity with complete seat and frame design, special characteristics, and regulatory testing requirements.
• Proficient in problem investigation, analysis, and solution capabilities, including the use of 8D tools.
• In-depth understanding of BMW’s seat product development process, product and quality requirements, audit process, including BMW GS standards, LH, and test requirements.
• Proficient in Catia software.
• Excellent command of English and conversational German is a must for dealing with German customers.
• Strong communication and team cooperation skills.
